Writing reviews

This tutorial is suitable for those of you writing papers where one needs to review and comment a publication of some sort. As usual, the guide should be seen as a general framework with great potentials of personal improvement/enhancements.

Step 1: Front page

The same format as research papers.

Step 2: The Contents

study tip

Like usual you should try to have the same size in your headers, sub-titles and the like. Be sure to always keep it simple & professional! In the introduction page you could start by describing what drove you into reading this book, what is so special about it? Did you read it because of the public controversy about it, or the positive reviews you read about the book or just the fact that you liked its cover.

Neither the less, try to point the incitement that drove you to reading it, it is a good way to catch the readers interest. Make sure to keep this page brief. Then follow this page with a short resume about the story it self. Once again, remember to keep this section brief as well and try not to get into details.

The main point in writing this page is to give the reader a summary of the book which enables him/her to easier follow your thoughts later on.

Step 3: The Contents

study guide

It is a good idea to include a small paragraph of some sort in the beginning of the text introducing the author and his/her previous works. Enough about small issues. The most important page in your review is the page where your views and commentary is uplifted and discussed in detail, here this page is called Reflections.

Make sure to write as much as possible here; include a discussion concerning the message of the book, what makes it good/bad and of course some general reflections your impression of the book
