How To Manage Your Time Effectively

September 6, 2007  |  Managing Time

Time management is such an important skill, could be very effective, but yet a whole bunch of people seem to have serious issues with it.

They spend hours upon hours reading material from so called “motivational writers” and little time actually doing what they are supposed to do, the irony!

Anyhow, I thought it would be nice if we could touch on this subject and maybe I could give you a few things to consider.

The Value Of Time Management

I’ve written on this topic before so there is no real need to repeat it. By killing time you are actually killing yourself! Are we not merely but hours, minutes and seconds? Not until we give this issue it’s due right will we learn how to spend our time wisely.

We can be sick and become healthy, go broke and become rich but no man can ever bring a second back that has passed. Once again, use your time wisely!

Be Strict But Also Flexible

It’s important to understand that when you are writing your schedule; you are not only composing a list of what you will be doing the coming days/weeks but you are writing it down in fixed times.

If you are supposed to study between 05.00 – 07.00 pm, then you ought to take that time serious. This does not mean you shouldn’t involve in other things if these things are important, flexibility is important but so is strictness.

The one word that can save you tons of time…

Learn how to say no. Believe me, it’s more important than you may think. We have to learn how to say no when it’s needed or else we won’t get anything done. There is a lot of disturbing elements around us, which brings us to the next topic.

Watch out for distractions

If you have a specific time for your studies you should be very aware of not indulging in time consuming, worthless activities such as checking your e-mail daily, text messages on your phone and the list goes on…

OK that is about it for now; if someone read this and he is still wasting his time then let me assure you that he is indeed indeed… crazy. Learning about a time management skill is pretty interesting, huh? For more advanced study skills & techniques, please don’t forget to check this out, it’s worth it.

  1. Very useful thing.

  2. this is nice to advice
but the thing is when ever i make time table for studies it is applied by me upto 2 days only after some times any important this comes at study no matter i have to do that thing then after that it gets important to come back to time table again the time table made by mean gets ruined :(

  3. C’est la vie the french say, such is life! You can’t be on top of your game all the time but the important thing is not to get side tracked too often. Try to follow your time table but at the same time, keep in mind that circumstances can change and that you should keep it updated so it can still be applied.

  5. First of all, you need to understand why your level of efficiency has decreased. It may also be due to the level of academic excellence is now higher than before (more smart students pers capita).
Pinpoint what you think could be the cause of this issue (entertainment, sports, leisure, activities etc?) and if you find these new tasks to be time consuming and of little value, simply discard them. It’s really that simple. Never let today’s work become tomorrows worry. If you start to procrastinate, this is exactly what’s going to happen.

Starting today, right now, list all of your studying task in order of their importance and start going through them. Do not stop until you feel you’ve done enough, push your self to the limits because there are no secret shortcuts to hard work. START NOW!

Also, the mere fact that other people can get these marks means that there shouldn’t be anything stopping you from doing the same! Remember also to keep track of your progress and there are numerous ways of doing that.

    Go get them lion! :D

  6. you said at last that “Remember also to keep track of your progress and there are numerous ways of doing that.”
